Sport Programs
Sport has played a critical role in our mission since we began working with literally thousands of young people playing in our leagues and competitions since 1998. Today, the Foundation's sporting activities involve both "development of sport" and "development through sport" initiatives. They include:
Primary LeaguesThe cornerstone of our sporting program. 1st term leagues (Oct to Dec) include boys football and girls netball. February and March (2nd Term) is track and field season while we organize girls football and boys basketball during third term (April to June). The leagues are open to the 17 primary schools in western St. Mary and over 500 children per year participate.
Community LeaguesU13 football, U15 football, U19 football, ladies cricket, netball, dominoes… you name it, we've organized it. Our community based sports leagues not only provide a sporting outlet for local communities. They also play an important role in bringing communities together in a positive environment - crucial to building social capital.
Technical ProgramIts difficult to have a positive sporting environment without coaches, referees and umpires to make the leagues work. The Foundation trains as many of these important people as possible. We are certified course conductors in the Caribbean Coaching Certification Programme and also have established a Junior Referee program.
EventsWe also organize a number of yearly sport-related events. We partner with the Notre Dame Alumni Club to stage the yearly Jumpball Basketball Programme and with the St. Mary Off-Road Bicycling Association to do the popular Jamaica Bicycle Bash.
Swim JamaicaWe are very proud of our Swim Jamaica program and you can learn more here.
