Health Projects
St. Mary is one of the most underserved Jamaican parishes in terms of health. One of the fewest numbers of clinics per person and also one of the lowest numbers of clinic visits per person.
In 2007 the Oracabessa Foundation started the Oracabessa Health Fair to address some of these issues. That first year we did over 1200 individual health screenings for such things as: blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, prostate cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, vision, dental and many others.
2008 saw us building on that success and we managed over 2100 individual screenings!
For 2009 we combined the Health Fair with the Oracabessa Marlin Tournament and put together a day that focused on men's health. The day was another huge success as the Public Relations officer of the North East Regional Health Authority said: "I don't think we've ever done so many HIV tests on men before!"
We are working to continue providing Oracabessa residents with access to quality health screenings. You can make a difference by clicking on the donate button and making a contribution!
