Oracabessa Marlin Tournament
High tech equipment? Not here. Million dollar boats? Nope. Fancy rods and reels? Nowhere to be seen. What can be seen are local fishermen testing every ounce of their skills against one of the ocean’s strongest fish – with nothing more than their 22’ canoe, a length of fishing line and the God-given strength in their arms. And it is no joke. Twice in the last three years the Champion Marlin has weighed in at over 500 pounds! Unbelievable.
The annual Oracabessa Marlin Fishing Tournament - held in early October each year - is a fundraising event for the St. Mary Fisherman's Cooperative. Funds are used by the Cooperative to promote sustainable fishing practices among its members.
