Art Education Project

Surrounded by the Caribbean sea, tumbling rivers, and lush hilllsides this tiny fishing village on the North Coast of Jamaica has been famously inspirational. Credited by Ian Fleming for his beloved "James Bond" novels, he penned the wildly successful 007 series in Oracabessa. Countless scripts, lyrics, poems, and paintings have been born within artists' imaginations amidst the panoramic landscape. However, local youth in the area haven’t had the tools or guidance to share their inspirations as there is little funding for the arts in any of the local schools.

Last summer the Foundation started a youth art program for 11 students, ages 10-12. And we were amazed at the talent!! Most had never held a paintbrush. They learned how to mix colors, work in acrylics, paint in pastels, and use watercolors. At the end of the summer we had an exhibition of their art for the community as each student received their best piece framed for display.

An expanded version of the program is continuing this summer. This year, we plan to have limited edition prints of their work made and sold in Jamaican art galleries as an additional way to support and grow the youth art program in Oracabessa.
